2 Week Apprenticeship Program

Program Dates
In addition to full time apprenticeship in the School of the Horse, Trish Hyatt is pleased to offer two week comprehensive, interactive equestrian training programs. You are invited to take part in one or more apprenticeship camps and are welcome to leave your horses here while you enjoy the local attractions and take a break between courses.
This program takes you "beyond the clinic experience" and will prepare you for the Chris Irwin Certification Program. The program will include training in all aspects of riding and horsemanship techniques. Students enrolled in this program will be educated and experience "hands on" training with this method that has literally changed the way horses are trained. These techniques work with every age and breed of horse and for any discipline.
Depending on the horses and the participants, the following will be included: the use of the round pen, starting a colt, training of a green horse, handling real problems that occur among horses, ground control, lateral movement, lead changes, components of the stop, communication through the body, and horse psychology.
These 2-week courses will be limited to four participants to maximize the amount of individual attention that each student receives. Students are recommended to bring two horses to work with--one unbroke horse that has never had a saddle on, and one broke horse able to walk, trot, canter or two broke horses but the more challenging one will be restarted. If necessary, horses can be provided at extra cost.
Training sessions will run from 8 am to 4 pm weekdays (with an hour for lunch). Students will spend 20 hours or more in direct training with their own horses and up to 60 hours learning by watching their peers and group discussions.
Each apprentice may bring along a helper (spouse or friend, for example). The friend may not participate directly in the program, but may observe, ask questions, etc. Participants must be at least 18 years old, or 16 if accompanied by a parent.
Students will be coached through the fundamentals of body language (equus) and will start with work on the ground using leading, lunging and long lining as tools to bond with the horse.
